This list includes a list of commonly found terms and nomenclature related to using Salesforce:

Term Description
Org A company’s Salesforce system. ILR has its own Salesforce org. The university has two central orgs, and several other colleges have their own orgs as well. The name of our Salesforce org is ILROutreach.
Lightning The current user interface for Salesforce. Since 2018, Salesforce no longer supports the Classic interface and new features are not compatible with it. Although it is still available on the ILR org, we strongly encourage use of Lightning.
App A set of tabs and other customizations that provide a focused view of an area of Salesforce related to a user’s role in the organization.
Object A collection of a type of data. For example, Outreach Activities is an object that includes all the Outreach Activities forms.
List View A list of multiple items in a single object and are often filtered for a specific purpose. For example a list view could include all the Outreach Activities in a given department for a given date range. List views are a little like spreadsheets.
Detail View A page that shows many (or all) fields of a single item, for example, all fields in one particular Outreach Activity form.
Report Think of it as a more complex list view, that can include multiple objects in a huge variety of configurations. For example, a report could show all Outreach Activities forms and any related sessions or class data all on the same page. Reports can be exported to Excel.
Contacts People of all kinds who we work with – customers, students, billing contacts, even co-workers. The one exception is for people who might be interested in working with us but haven’t yet engaged with us by attending a workshop or other activity. These are called Leads and are mainly used by the Marketing group.
Accounts Companies that we do business with and also ILR departments.
Opportunities What Salesforce refers to as a situation where an entity is interested in doing business with us and is actively engaged but has not yet purchased a product. ILR mainly uses Opportunities for custom programs and consultations.
ILROutreach The name of our Salesforce org.
