Change Default App by File Type

To change the default app for a specific file type, like a .xls file:

  • Go to the Windows search bar and type Default apps.

  • In the "Default apps" window, use the search bar to find the file type you want to change, for example, .xls.

  • Click on the current default app listed for that file type.

  • A new pop-up window will appear. From the list, select the app you want to use as the default (for a .xls file, you would select Microsoft Excel).

  • Click Set default.

This will ensure that all files with the .xls extension open with your chosen application.

Change Default Apps by Application

You can also change the defaults for a specific application. In the "Default apps" window, you can search for an app, like Google Chrome, and see what file types and links it is set to open. From there, you can manage and change its associations.
