Edit an Account (Company)

In Salesforce a "Company" is referred to as an "Account".  Be aware that there are several types of Accounts in Salesforce, including companies, as well as Cornell departments.  There also may be duplicate Accounts.  Some of these are legitimate, reflecting different branch offices of the same company or even different companies with the same or similar names.

To edit an Account in Salesforce:

  1. Find the desired Account in one of the following ways:
    • Search for the Account in the Search bar at the top of every screen.
    • Open any listview from the home page or Accounts tab and click on any blue link that is an Account's name.
    • Open any report from the home page and click on any blue link that is an Account's name.
  2. The Account will open in View mode.  To Edit, either:
    • Click the Edit button at upper right.  This will allow editing in a pop-out window.
    • Click the pencil icon next to any field.  This will allow in-place editing in the full screen.  Note that the pencil icon will not necessarily center the desired field on the page and some scrolling may be necessary.
  3. Refer to the fields walk-through for detailed information about all fields.
  4. Click Save to complete the editing process.
