Import CSV Files to Salesforce Leads

Tags salesforce

The Salesforce MarComm page has the ability to import CSV files of Lead information.  Note that the interface of this app is not customizable by us, as it's a packaged app created for us by a vendor, and as such, there is some quirky behavior as detailed below.

To import CSV files using the importer:

  1. Convert source file to CSV format
  2. Select the ILR MarComm app in Salesforce (click Waffle, type "MarComm", click)
  3. Click the "Marketing Home" tab
  4. Click "Upsert Leads"
  5. If you do not have the template yet, acquire it by clicking "View/download file format" and prep the file before proceeding
  6. Either click the "Upload Files" button and locate the source file, or drag it to the "drop files" box
  7. Click "Upsert Leads"
  8. If the process was complete, click the "X" at top right or click "Cancel".  There is no other button to exit the window.

Notes:

  • If the process fails, after resolving the issue, close the import window and click on "Upsert Leads" again.
  • To view the log, do NOT click "Link to Log".  To view the log:
    1. Click the Waffle
    2. Type "Logs" and click
    3. Switch to the "All view"
    4. Sort by Created Date
    5. Click the link to the desired log
    6. Click the Log Uploader link at upper right to open
  • If the import hits a problem, it will stop at that point, having done a partial import.  You can either re-import the same data file repeatedly if necessary.

Data points for common fields:

  • If Company or Lastname are unknown, use "NONE PROVIDED"
  • OwnerId for DY = 0050P0000080ih9
  • RecordId for Outreach (not Grad) = 0124U0000019OmLQAU
  • Lead Type for Outreach workshops is generally "Professional Programs"  ("Custom Programs" is another option)
  • Import Name should be a unique value, and one way to do that is to include some indication of the source and also the data
