Basic Salesforce Navigation

  • Salesforce uses “apps” to provide a customized experience for users based on their roles.  This is not an app like on a cell phone, but rather a set of customizations to the interface to help people see what they are most likely to need among the many options in Salesforce.
  • The Nav Bar is the line of tabs that stretches across the top of the page.  The tabs you see depend on what app you are using.  The name of the app that you are currently using will appear at the upper left, under the ILR logo.
  • The icon that looks like a grid of dots on the far left of the Nav Bar (generally called the “waffle”) allows you to change what app you are using. To change apps, click the waffle and type “ILR” to see the various ILR-specific options.

  • People will see the ILR Prog app for people who work with programs and courses and the ILR Core app for people who work in Finance.  Other apps are also in use.
  • Each tab in the Nav Bar is named for the type of information it will display when you click it.
