Accessing the ILR Filemaker Server

Tags Filemaker

ILR maintains a Filemaker server as a way to share Filemaker databases, and it also provides additional security and backup.  The server is accessible to authorized users through the Filemaker desktop application.  ILR is currently using Filemaker 19, which has the logo that looks like this:

To access ILR's Filemaker server:

  1. If you are working remotely, log into the ILR VPN.
  2. Open Filemaker 19 from your Start Menu (which has a logo that matches the above image). If you receive a message about modifying the Windows Firewall, click "Cancel".
  3. Click "File" to open the File menu
  4. Click "Open"
  5. Click the "Hosts" button at lower right

  1. In the Hosts window that appears, click the "+" at upper left next to the Search Hosts box

  1. In the "Host's Internet Address" field, type "il-fm-01.ilr.cornell.edu". Do not click Save yet.
  2. In the "Favorite Host's Name" field, type "ILR Filemaker Server"
  3. Click "Save"
  4. Enter your Filemaker username and password

The databases that you have access to on the server will now appear.  You will need to enter your Filemaker username and password again each time you access a database the first time.

If you would like to put a new database on the Filemaker Server please submit a ticket to ILRTS.
