Access collaborative shared files off-campus or wirelessly that are located on ILR servers.
1) Access Cisco VPN
On the desktop, at the top of the screen, go to Go -> Applications -> Cisco (click on the arrow to expand) -> Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client.
**NOTE** If Go on the menu bar is not visible, click once on the desktop to make Go appear (all programs should be minimized or closed beforehand).
**NOTE** If you need to install the Cisco VPN software, on the desktop of the Mac, select Go -> Applications -> Self Service . Find CU AnyConnect VPN within the list of software that can be installed -> click Install. Use your administrative username and password to install the software, when prompted.
2) Connect to VPN
The Cisco AnyConnect Secure Mobility Client pop-up box will appear. To the left of Connect, verify cuvpn.cuvpn.cornell.edu is entered. If it is, click Connect.
3) Login to Two-Step VPN
A dialog box will appear with the heading Cisco AnyConnect | cuvpn.cuvpn.cornell.edu. Use the following options to connect then select OK.
Group = Select Two-Step_Login from the drop down menu.
Username = yournetid@IL-VPN (this is case sensitive so use capital letters for IL-VPN).
Password = your netid/email password.
DUO Passcode(push/sms/phone):
push: When typing push, a notification will be sent to your DUO Mobile app on your Smartphone.
sms: When typing sms, ten unique sets of numbers will be sent via text message to your Smartphone. Any of these codes can be used for twenty-four hours. Each code can only be used once.
phone: when typing phone, the default phone number setup in your two-step device management will ring to verify your identity.
**NOTE** If you see something different than DUO Passcode(push,sms/phone) as the image shows below, please still enter the same selections above of either push, sms, or phone into the required field to the right.
**NOTE** If, when selecting OK after all the information is entered into the required fields, you receive an authentication failed message, please still follow through on verifying your identity. The process should still work. This is a glitch that happens sometimes upon first use of VPN only.
4) Successful Connection Verified
On the top right of the screen on the desktop (near the clock), a pop-up box will appear indicating a successful VPN connection. Also, at the top of the screen on the desktop near the clock, you can double check that you're currently connected to VPN by looking for an image of a globe with a lock just to the right of the globe.
5) Initiate Connection to Server Shared Folder
On the desktop, on the menu bar on the top left, select Go -> Connect to Server.
**NOTE** If you don't see Go at the top of the screen on the left hand side, click on the desktop after all programs and windows are minimized. The menu bar, with Go visible, will appear.
6) Connect to Server Shared Folder
Under Server Address, enter smb://files.cornell.edu/il/data/shared -> click + to save the connection for later use -> Connect.
7) Enter Credentials
You'll be prompted for your logon credentials. Ensure Registered User is selected. Enter netid@cornell.edu for the username and your netid/email password -> choose Connect. The folder you entered into the server address will pop-up in front of you shortly after Connect has been selected.
8) Display Shared Folder on Desktop
After you have connected to the folder and the folder has opened, make the folder appear on your desktop by going, on the menu bar at the top left, Finder -> Preferences -> Select Connected Servers. An icon with the folder name will appear on the desktop.
9) Create Alias
The folder will disappear from the desktop upon disconnecting to VPN unless an alias is created for the folder. To make the folder stay on the desktop, click on the folder to select it, go to File -> Create Alias. The folder will appear with the folder name and the words alias after it. After the alias for the folder has been created, upon further VPN connections, you can connect to the VPN then just double click on the folder alias on the desktop and enter your credentials.
10) Disconnect from VPN
When you've finished working off the shared folder and want to disconnect from the ILR network, select the image of a globe with a lock at the top of the screen. A drop-down menu will appear. Choose Disconnect.
