As a Johnson Two-Year MBA student in this pilot, you get Cornell-provided accounts for both Claude Enterprise (from Anthropic) and ChatGPT Edu (from OpenAI). Access to the two may not arrive at the same time.
You use them on your own laptop, tablet, or phone, in a web browser or in the apps. There's nothing for Cornell to install on your device.
This is a pilot run by JCB IT with AI at Cornell, so expect details to change as it develops.
Get started
-
Watch for your invitation emails. Claude's comes from Anthropic and says cornell.edu has added you to their Claude organization. ChatGPT's comes from noreply@tm.openai.com and invites you to a ChatGPT Edu workspace. Both are genuine.

-
Already use Claude or ChatGPT yourself? The two work differently. Claude keeps your personal account alongside your Cornell one. ChatGPT may offer to move a personal account on your @cornell.edu address into Cornell's workspace. Read Claude Enterprise and Your Personal Claude Account or ChatGPT Edu and Your Personal ChatGPT Account before you set up.
Each takes a few minutes. You sign in with your NetID and Duo, the same as other Cornell services.
What to expect
- Cornell and personal accounts are kept apart. Your Cornell account is managed by Cornell, and chats, projects, and settings don't automatically flow between it and a personal account.
- Not everything is turned on yet. Some Claude models and connectors are off during the pilot. If you can't find something, it probably isn't enabled. See What's Included in Claude Enterprise and What's Included in ChatGPT Edu.
- Usage. Each of these tools have different usage limits and different reset windows. You should monitor your usage carefully.
- When your access ends. Your Cornell accounts are tied to your University account, so expect to lose access to them when that account ends, for example after you graduate. Keep copies of anything you'll want later.
- Details will change. Features may be turned on or adjusted as the pilot goes on, and these articles will be updated when they are.
What data you can use
Low and Moderate Risk Cornell data is allowed in both tools, the same rules that apply to Cornell's AI Gateway.
Not sure which category your data falls into? University Policy 5.10 defines Low, Moderate, and High Risk data and what falls into each.
