When you delete a file or folder in Box, it moves to your Trash and stays there for 30 days. After 30 days, Box permanently deletes it. If you don't want to wait, you can permanently delete items from Trash yourself.
Warning: Once you delete an item from Trash, you can't restore it.
Permanently delete specific items
These steps work whether you're looking at all of your Trash or at search results.
- In the left sidebar in Box, click Trash.
- Hover over the item you want. The More Options ellipsis (...) appears.
- Click the ellipsis (...) and select Delete.

- When prompted, click Okay.
To delete several items at once, select them: hold Shift to select a range, or hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) to select individual items. Then right-click anywhere in the selection and select Delete.
Empty your Trash
- Open your Trash.
- Click Delete All in the upper-right corner.
Note: Delete All deletes everything in your Trash, not just the items on screen. If you don't see Delete All, you don't have permission to delete items from your Trash.
