Spirion (formerly Identity Finder) scans your hard drive, website, or other collection of files to identify confidential data, such as Social Security, credit card, or bank account numbers. When the scan is complete, it produces a list of files that may contain confidential data.
Cornell faculty and staff who are interested in Spirion for their Cornell-owned computers should contact their local IT staff.
Cornell IT Service Groups who want to deploy Spirion to their end users should contact data-discovery@cornell.edu.
Mac computers which:
• are running macOS 10.13 (High Sierra) and older
• have startup volumes that use file formats other than Apple's APFS
• are enrolled in Confidential Data Discovery (Spirion)
may encounter startup problems following a June 2019 update to Spirion Confidential Data Discovery. Affected Macs will not start up and will display a gray "no" symbol on a black background.
Users affected by this problem should contact their local technical support provider about the issue. If you aren't sure who your support provider is, contact the IT Service Desk.
