Cornell’s e-list service uses a product called Lyris ListManager.  With more and more e‑mail servers blocking potential spam, this is the best free option available through Cornell for those of us who need to e-mail out e-newsletters and/or press releases to many e-mail addresses.

An e-list is a way to communicate with a number of people through a single email address.

Cornell’s e-list service uses a product called Lyris ListManager.  With more and more e‑mail servers blocking potential spam, this is the best free option available through Cornell for those of us who need to e-mail out e-newsletters and/or press releases to many e-mail addresses.

The below information was adapted from the CIT articles to specifically help Cornell Cooperative Extension staff who need to create and maintain an e-news/announcement e-list with Lyris.

E-list request form fields:

  • E-list name should begin with "cce-" and include association name, if association specific
    • ex. cce-chautauquagardening-l
  • Purpose: Cornell Cooperative Extension
  • Unit: CCE [Assocation Name] County Extension 
    • ex. CCE Chautauqua County Extension
  • Primary owner field will be auto filled with the person filling out request form
  • E-mail address of secondary: Add at least one other staff person as admin for backup, either another association staff person and/or IT staff person. 
    • For multiple secondary admins, enter each e-mail separated by space
    • Group e-mail accounts can be added as a secondary admin
      • Ex. jar97@cornell.edu wsbnit@cornell.edu
  • Who may subscribe:  Two recommendations for this type of e-list:
    • CLOSED - Only admins will be able to manually add new recipients. 
    • PRIVATE – Option would allow people to request to be added. Lyris will send all join requests to the list's administrators, for approval or rejection.
  • Who may post: 
    • Announcements - Only admins can send out e-mails to list.
  • Moderation:
  • Where replies go: Sender
  • Resource requirements: Standard E-list (less than 10,000 recipients)
