Workstation First Time Login

Before logging into your Cornell owned computer for the first time, you must connect to the Cornell VPN so the computer can verify your credentials. These instructions will walk you through connecting to the VPN.

**This only needs to be done if you are logging into your computer for the first time off-campus. On-campus connections do not require a VPN

You will not need to follow this process for subsequent logins.

1. Connect your laptop to the internet via Ethernet or via Wi-FI by clicking the globe icon in the lower right corner of the login screen. If there is no globe, you are connected to the Internet.

2. Once you’re connected to your network, click the button in the lower right corner that looks like two displays on top of each other.

3. This will open Cisco Secure Connect. Click “Connect." In the login window that opens for cuvpn.cuvpn.cornell.edu, enter your NetID in the username field and your NetID password in the password field.

4. In the field labelled “DUO Passcode” OR “Second Password”, enter the method you would like to use to authenticate with Duo.

For example: enter “push” (without quotations) to receive a Duo push notification to your phone, enter “phone” to receive a phone call, or enter “SMS” to receive a text verification code.

5. Once you are successfully connected, a new icon will show in the bottom right corner with an “X” inside a circle. You may now sign into your computer for the first time using your NetID and password. If you do not see your name, select "other user" from the bottom-left of the window.
