Office365 Licensing

Tags office365

Regardless of what license you have, CCE staff have access to the full Microsoft Office 365 suite of desktop applications on CCE-owned computers that are joined to the Cornell domain.

The Office suite includes Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Teams. For Windows, Access, Publisher, and InfoPath are also included.

Please check with your regional and association IT support team before installing a user-based license version onto a CCE-owned computer.  http://helpdesk.cce.cornell.edu/

Acceptable Reasons for Applying for An Office 365 A3 License

Office 365 licenses come in two flavors: A1 and A3

  • A1: 50GB mailbox quota, can use Office Online apps on any computer
    • All CCE staff have at least an A1 Office license when hired.
    • Sign in at office.com for quick access to the online apps; they appear in the left column.
  • A3: 100GB mailbox quota, ability to administer MS Bookings sites, can download and install MS Office apps on non-Cornell domain joined computers used for Cornell and CCE business.

To find out which license you have:

  1. Go to portal.office.com/account.
  2. Select Subscriptions in the left-hand column.
  3. You will then see your Office 365 license (A1 or A3).

Acceptable reasons to request an upgraded A3 license for CCE business purposes:

  • larger mailbox
  • ability to administer a Bookings site
  • download (desktop) Office apps on a non-Cornell domain joined computer for CCE business

Only full-time, regular employees may request an upgraded A3 license.

NEVER attempt to share your Office365 license with another person.  Your Microsoft 365 A3 license is a personal license assigned to you. You may not allow other individuals to use your Cornell-licensed Microsoft applications, including family members.
