Suffolk - ID Smart 21 badge printer setup

Description

This article describes how to print a non-temporary Cornell Cooperative Extension (CCE) employee ID badge using Smart ID Designer. The process covers creating both the front and back of the badge. Both badge template files are stored in the Documents folder on your workstation.

Procedure

Creating the Front of the Badge

  1. Take a photo of the employee using a cell phone.
  2. Crop the photo before sending it.
  3. Email the cropped photo to your CCE email address.
  4. Save the photo to the following location on your workstation: Documents > ID Badge 2025 A > Staff Pics.
  5. Click the Smart ID Designer icon in the bottom-right area of the screen to open the application.
  6. If the Template Wizard appears, close it.
  7. Click Open.
  8. Select the file ID Badge 2025a /CSP from the bottom of the list.
  9. Click Open.
  10. Click Database in the top-left menu.
  11. Click Add (the green + button) at the top-center of the screen. The Add Card menu will appear.
  12. Next to 1. Image, click the vertical rectangular box with three dots (...) on the right side.
  13. Navigate to ID Badge 2025 > Staff Pics.
  14. Click on the employee's photo.
  15. Click Open. The photo will appear in the Value field next to 1. Image.
  16. Double-click in the String section.
  17. In the Name row, type the employee's name in the Value box.
  18. Repeat the previous step for the Title and Department fields.
  19. Select one of the following options based on your needs:
    • Click Add & Continue to add more employees or cards.
    • Click Add & Print to add the entry and proceed to printing immediately.
    • Click Add & Close if you are not yet ready to print.
  20. If you selected Add & Print, click Confirm when the confirmation prompt appears.
  21. Insert the card into the printer.
  22. Click Print.
  23. Click Print again to confirm.
  24. After printing, the card entry will turn yellow to indicate it has been printed.
  25. Click Save in the top-left corner.

Creating the Back of the Badge

  1. Click the Smart ID Designer icon in the bottom-right area of the screen to open the application.
  2. Click Open in the top-left corner.
  3. Navigate to Documents > Smart ID Designer.
  4. Select Badge Back /CSP from the bottom of the list.
  5. Click on the file. The badge back design will be displayed on screen.
  6. Hold the card vertically with the photo side at the top.
  7. Flip the card upward and insert it into the printer with the blank side facing up.
  8. Click Print.
