Remote Mac Setup

Description

This article describes the steps needed in order to start the setup of a Mac that has been purchased from the Cornell Store and shipped directly to the intended user without any prior configuration or setup with the on-campus CALS OIT technicians. Once these steps are completed you will need to get in contact with your on-campus IT support group for further guidance on completing the setup. They will guide you through tying the computer to your netID as the primary user as well as installing our Standard Software.

Procedure

  1. Select the Language, Region and Accessibility options.

  1. Select the proper Wi-Fi network, input password if needed, then click “Continue”.

  1. Now you’ll be presented with a screen like the one below. Click Continue.

If you are not given the window below, and instead are prompted to create an account please stop here and contact your IT support group for assistance.

  1. It will now prompt for you to login. Enter your NETID@cornell.edu address and password. It will then prompt you for Duo.

  1. It will begin to download the configuration packages. Once it completes, you will be presented with a time zone screen. Set the appropriate time zone here.

  1. You will again be prompted to login. Use your netID@cornell.edu and password, and approve the Duo option when prompted.

  1.  If the Mac has Touch ID, it will show that setup window. You may skip it by selecting "Set up touch ID later", or save your fingerprint to touch ID by clicking "Continue" and following the on-screen prompts.

  1.  You will now be presented with a Cornell Welcome Screen. It will give you the option to select the Cornell IT department that will support this Mac. Select “College of Agriculture and Life Sciences”, then click “Ok”

  1.  After it sets the group, it will bring up a message that states you are done with the setup. Confirm the IT department is set as "College of Agriculture and Life Sciences" within the message below. Click “Ok” if so.

If the IT department has been incorrectly set, please stop here and contact your IT support group for assistance.

  1. From here, further setup will need to be done with a technician. Please stop here and get in contact with a CALS OIT technician for setup if you have not already done so.
