Academic Dynamic Web Hosting

Academic Dynamic Web Hosting

The Center for Teaching Innovation (CTI) provides web server space for deploying dynamic web pages. The Academic Dynamic Web Hosting service offers web hosting space for the purpose of course instruction and coursework for Cornell courses. This service is provided for course-related work by faculty, instructional staff, and students in active university courses. It is not meant to be an archival web hosting service.

The Academic Dynamic Web Hosting service is based on Linux, Apache, MySQL, and PHP (LAMP). It allows web developers to create websites with dynamic content and databases. Site developers may install third-party packages such as Drupal or Mediawiki to support websites that are subject to the service terms and conditions.

Dynamic hosting of WordPress blogs is provided via a separate service, Cornell Blogs

The Academic Dynamic Web Hosting package includes:

  • Access to the dynamic (courses2) server through a UNIX shell account via SSH.
  • File transfer access via secure FTP (SFTP).
  • Ability to secure sites or portions of the site via Cornell NetID single sign on via Shibboleth.
  • A web environment with 2.5 GB of disk space (more available upon request).
  • PHP 7.x programming language.
  • MySQL 8.x database (additional databases available upon request).
  • 5 hours of support in using the dynamic hosting environment.
