Issue

If you receive the following message from "Microsoft Outlook"

Subject: Your Mailbox is almost full

Resolution

Check how much space you have available in outlook

It is located at the bottom of your outlook on the bottom toolbar.  If you do not see how much space you have free you will need to turn on the Quota Information by right-clicking on the bottom toolbar in outlook.

If you use OWA you can check it by going to the "Gear in upper right->All Settings -> General -> Storage"

Empty Deleted Items Folder

Note that items that are in your "Deleted Items" folder count against your mailbox size.

To empty the Deleted Items folder, right-click and choose "Empty Folder".

Find and Remove Large Items

A few messages with large attachments can fill up your mailbox pretty quickly. It's often faster to locate and remove unneeded large messages rather than deleting a lot of small messages.

Additional Notes

If the email you received doesn't look like the example above or you checked your email storage space and it isn't full, be sure to check the Cornell University Phishbowl (https://it.cornell.edu/phish-bowl) to see if the email you received is a potential spam/phishing email, or reach out to rais-help@cornell.edu and we can assist.
