Summary
explains how an external partner completes Microsoft account setup after receiving an email invitation to a shared folder from Cornell Cooperative Extension of Suffolk County, so they can access and upload files.
Body
Description
Note: This article only applies to external partners (outside Cornell) who receive a shared folder invitation from CCE Suffolk staff.
When CCE Suffolk staff share a folder with an external email address, the recipient receives an email invitation to view the folder. Access to the folder requires a Microsoft account tied to that email address. If the Microsoft account setup was never finished, the recipient may be able to view the folder but will be blocked from uploading files, or may see a sign-in error when opening the link.
Procedure
- Open the email invitation received from the CCE Suffolk staff member who shared the folder.
- Select the link in the invitation email to open the shared folder.
- If prompted to sign in, enter the email address the folder was shared with.
- If a Microsoft account already exists for that email address, enter the password and continue to the folder.
- If no Microsoft account exists yet, select the option to create one when prompted.
- Enter a password for the new account when prompted.
- Check the inbox for the email address being used and locate the verification code or verification link sent by Microsoft.
- Enter the verification code, or select the verification link, to confirm the email address.
- Complete any remaining account setup steps shown on screen, such as setting a country or region.
- Return to the original folder invitation email and select the link again to open the folder.
- Confirm the folder opens and that files can be viewed and uploaded.
Note: If the folder still cannot be accessed after completing the steps above, contact the CCE Suffolk staff member who shared the folder for further assistance.
