CCE Erie - HP M521dn at BNMC office

Summary

An HP M521dn multifunction printer (black-and-white only) is available for CCE Erie staff at the Buffalo Niagara Medical Campus (BNMC). This is a shared BNMC printer and is not owned by CCE. Staff can print to the printer while connected to the "BNMC_Guest" Wi‑Fi network.

Installing the Printer

To have this printer installed on your computer, please contact your local IT person (Tim) or submit a help desk ticket at https://westernhelpdesk.cce.cornell.edu.

The following install instructions are for IT staff. 

  1. Verify staff laptop is connected to the "BNMC_Guest" wifi.  
  2. Connect to VPN to download and save the full installer from "N:\Public\HP M521dn drivers" to the "C:\DISKS" folder
  3. Restart and log in to the computer using a local administrator account.
  4. Double click to run the full installer exe file. (Note: This installer does take a long time to load.)
    • Click Customize link during install and select the options: HP update, scan, and status/alerts. Uncheck all the others (fax, etc) - they are not needed.
    • On Connection Type screen, click on "Connect through a network" and "Automatically find my product..." to auto-detect.
    • It will prompt to set as default and print test page. Verify test page printed. (This may take a couple of minutes.)
    • At the end of the install, uncheck the options when prompted for HP connected and registering the device.
  5. Test scanning while logged in with the admin account. (The HP scan software shortcut should be visible on the desktop.)
  6. In Windows, go to Printers & Scanners - Open printer properties on HP printer and rename the device to BNMC HP LJ M521dn (192.168.99.50) for easy identification.
  7. RESTART the computer.
  8. Instruct staff member to log back in under their own user profile.
  9. Set printer as default, if desired. Test printing and scanning again to confirm functionality.
