Merging PDFs

Summary

The PDFill Free PDF Tools application can merge or combine PDF files into a single PDF file. It has additional functions including converting images to PDFs and adding a header or footer to the resulting PDF. The header or footer can include page numbers. This application is for Microsoft Windows.

The PDFill Free PDF Tools application can merge or combine PDF files into a single PDF file. It has additional functions including converting images to PDFs and adding a header or footer to the resulting PDF. The header or footer can include page numbers. This application is for Microsoft Windows.

NOTE: This application requires temporary Administrator access to install on your PC. Please consult your IT support if you need temporary Administrator access.

Procedure

Download PDFill Free PDF Tools application and install it:

  1. Click on the link and it will automatically download the installation file:  https://download.cnet.com/pdfill-free-pdf-tools/3001-18497_4-10435051.html?dt=internalDownload
  2. Open the Download folder and double click on the file to start the installation
  3. At the User Account Control (UAC) prompt, click Yes
  4. At the Setup Welcome screen, click Next > Select I accept the terms in the License Agreement  > click Next
  5. Uncheck PDFill Free PDF Editor Basic
  6. Uncheck FREE PDFill PDF and Image Writer > click Next
  7. At the Select Installation Folder, click Next
  8. At Ready to Install, click Install
  9. Click Finish
  10. Close the web browser tab

 

Merging PDFs

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Merge PDF Files
  3. You can Add PDF files individually, Add PDF files under a Folder, or drag and drop PDF files into the dialog box
  4. Continue adding PDF files
  5. Once you have your list of PDF files, you can rearrange their order by selecting a PDF file in the list and using the Move Up, Move Down, or Remove buttons
  6. The Sort button will sort the PDF files by file name in ascending order, and another click will sort them in descending order
  7. Once your list of PDF files is complete and in the desired order, click Save As… > select a folder and enter a file name for the merged PDF file > click Save
  8. The resulting PDF file will open in a new tab in your PDF reader.

NOTE: Keep your original files and do not overwrite them. This way, you’ll be able to make refinements without impacting your original files.

 

Convert images (bmp, jpg, gif, png, tiff, and wmf) and merge into a PDF file, with layout options.

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Convert Images to PDF
  3. You can Add image files individually, Add all Image files under a Folder, or drag and drop image files into the dialog box
  4. Continue adding image files
  5. Once you have your list of image files, you can rearrange their order by selecting an image file in the list and using the Move Up, Move Down, or Remove buttons
  6. When there are multiple image files, you can specify:
    1. Image Layout on each new PDF Page Edge: rows of images by columns of images
    2. Margins from Image to New PDF page Edge: Left, Right, Bottom, and Top
    3. Space between Images: Horizontal and Vertical
  7. Once your list of image files is complete and in the desired order, click Save As… > select a folder and enter a file name for the merged PDF file > click Save
  8. The resulting PDF file will open in a new tab in your PDF reader.

 

Split (Extract) or Reorder Pages in a PDF into a new PDF

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Split or Reorder Pages
  3. Select a file and click Open
  4. It will display the number of pages in the file.
  5. To extract pages from the PDF, select Split Pages From > enter the start page number and the end page number
  6. To place the remaining pages into a separate PDF, select Save the other pages as a PDF file. The output file name will have suffix “_OtherPages”
  7. To reorder pages, select Reorder Pages > enter the page ranges separated by commas, using the shown example.
  8. To delete pages, select Delete Pages > enter the page ranges separated by commas, using the shown example.
  1. To place the deleted pages into a separate PDF, select Save the other pages as a PDF file. The deleted pages file name will have suffix “_OtherPages”
  2. Click Save As … > select a folder and enter a file name for the new PDF file > click Save

 

Add Header and Footer

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Add Header and Footer
  3. Select a file and click Open
  4. It will display the number of pages in the file.
  5. To add a header or a footer, click Add Header or Add Footer
  6. Select whether you want to Add on the first page
  7. Select whether you want to Show Page Number
  8. Enter Text that will show before the page number
  9. Enter Text after the page number
  10. Select the Alignment from the pull-down menu- Left, Center, Right
  11. In the Text Properties section, select the Font Name from the pull-down menu, and enter Font Size if you need to change the defaults
  12. In the Margin From Edges section, enter the margin sizes for Left, Right, Top, Bottom if you need to change the defaults
  13. Click Save As … > select a folder and enter a file name for the new PDF file > click Save

 

Crop PDF Pages

This is very useful when you need to crop off edges of the page that contain undesired content, especially when the page does not lie flat when photocopying a bound book.

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Rotate or Crop PDF Pages
  3. Select a file and click Open
  4. It will display the number of pages in the file.
  5. To affect one page, Select Page number from the pull-down menu
  6. To affect all pages, click All Pages
  7. Click Crop Box to enable setting new margins
  8. Click on Left Margin field and enter the new margin size then press TAB key and the new margin size will appear in the appropriate margin column
  9. Continue this for the Right, Bottom, and Top Margins
  10. Click Save As … > select a folder and enter a file name for the new PDF file > click Save

 

Rotate PDF Pages

This is very useful when you need to rotate some pages in the PDF

  1. Double click on the PDFill PDF Tools (Free) icon
  2. Select Rotate or Crop PDF Pages
  3. Select a file and click Open
  4. It will display the number of pages in the file.
  5. To affect one page, Select Page number from the pull-down menu
  6. To affect all pages, click All Pages
  7. Click Rotate By to enable rotation direction
  8. Select direction from the pull-down menu (clockwise 90/180/270 degrees) and the new rotation value will appear in the appropriate Rotate By column field
  9. Click Save As … > select a folder and enter a file name for the new PDF file > click Save

When you are done, click Close > click Exit > click OK > close PDFill web page that opens.
