Description

The Canon imageCLASS MF455dw all-in-one printer is located in the finance office for most of the year.   During fair time, it is taken to the fairgrounds for staff to use (early to mid-July), and then returned to the finance office after fair.

This KB article is to assist staff in how to set up and install the printer for fair-time use.

Procedure

  1. [Anyone who needs the printer installed] Restart your computer to make sure no pending updates are waiting to install.  Copy the "Canon MF455dw drivers" folder from M drive to your desktop. 
    • M:\Public\Canon MF455dw drivers
       
  2.  [Only one person needs to do this step] Configure the AT&T RG2102 Franklin A50 hotspot so that the privacy separator option is turned off. 
  3. [Only one person needs to do this part] Confirm finance no longer needs to use the printer and switch the Canon printer over to wireless connection.
  4. [Anyone who needs the printer installed] Reach out to regional IT support at https://westernhelpdesk.cce.cornell.edu to schedule a time to install the printer. 

 

Note: When IT support remote connects, please be sure:

  1. The laptop is connected to the hotspot (and printer is also connected to hotspot at this point)
  2. Ensure the USB printer cable is available and ready but DO NOT plug it in yet. 

 

 

IT Support install procedure

  1. Remote into staff computer
  2. Restart and log into the .\cce-admin account
  3. Confirm both computer and printer connected to hotspot
  4. Wireless Setup - Run full installer, with network option selected
    • Rename to Canon MF455 WIRELESS
    • Deselect Fax
    • Select only PCL drivers to install
    • Allow test print and put test print on scanner
  5. Install Scanner Utility
    • Test scanning
  6. Plug in USB cable from laptop to printer
    • Open printer properties
      • Change drivers to PCL drivers
      • Rename to Canon MF455 USB
  7. Restart laptop and have staff person log back in
    • Test printing
    • Test scanning
      • Note: Scan option that ends with MAC address is wireless scan option
      • Update settings for default scans as needed (1-sided, location, etc)
