FAQ
When will my RC account be created? When can I begin using RC?
After your dept. has submitted phone numbers to be migrated to RC, your account will be created approximately 10 days before the migration date. You will receive an email from CIT’s RC Project Team asking you to activate your account. At that time, you will have access to RC with a temporary number. On the date of migration, your temporary number will cease, and your RC account will now match that of your original Cornell number.
After migration, can I consult with someone about more advanced configurations on my, or my team's, RC account(s)?
Yes! Please, first consult with your department's telecom coordinator. They can help facilitate any changes you'd like to make with CIT.
Can contact information be suppressed within RC’s search feature?
Currently, the answer is no. However, the vendor is designing a way to make names and NetIDs unsearchable. CIT recommends keeping anyone whose contact information needs to be suppressed on the old Avaya phone system until this feature is available.
Can calls be transferred from RC to an Avaya (Cornell’s old phone system) number?
Yes, you can transfer a phone call from RC to a number on Avaya and vice versa; you will, however, need to dial the full 10-digit phone number.
To dial an outside number, do I need to dial 9 first?
No, you do not need to enter a leading ‘9’ when placing an outbound call from RC. You will, however, need to dial the full 10-digit phone number.
Can I limit the mobile apps’ ability to ring outside business hours?
Yes, you can set custom hours for your phone number. This can also be done for call queues.
Does the mobile app use my mobile data?
Yes, by default RC will receive calls to, and make calls from, your Cornell number using mobile data. However, you can change these settings to place calls only over WiFi or carrier minutes.
Can I forward my Cornell number to my cell phone (or other outside line)?
Yes, you can. However, we recommend using the mobile app wherever possible instead of forwarding your calls. If, however, you must forward your calls, you can configure call handling (including forwarding to an external number) by following the vendor's instructions.
Can I change the ringtone used by the RC app on my mobile phone?
Yes, you can. Follow RC's instructions for changing your ringtone.
I only have a flip phone. Can I use the RC app on that?
No, the RC app is for smartphones only. However, CIT can configure a call handling rule for your RC number to ring an outside number (your flip phone) as well.
Can voicemail be disabled per line?
Yes. Please, ask your telecom coordinator to request this through CIT.
Can email alerting you to new voicemail be disabled per line?

Can the call recording feature be turned off per line?
Yes. Please, ask your telecom coordinator to request this through CIT.
Can student workers have an RC account?
Yes. Student-workers can have an RC account. Alternatively, you could have a desk phone at the student workstation instead. A desk phone wouldn’t need to be tied to a specific student-worker and could remain in place as student-workers come and go.
Will pressing *2 (call pick-up) still allow me to answer a suitemate’s phone in RC?
No, pressing *2 will not work to answer a suitemate’s RC phone. The only option available to answer another phone line, other than your own, is with a call queue. A call queue is a dedicated number that multiple RC users can answer.
Can I install RC on a personally owned computer?
Yes. Please, see CIT’s website for details.
What do I need to know about international calling and RC?
- You can place calls to and receive calls from international numbers at no direct cost to you. Cornell pays centrally for RingCentral and this includes costs associated with international calls.
- RingCentral maintains a list of countries to which international calls can be placed. This list changes frequently. It is recommended that you test placing calls to international numbers prior to any important calls/interviews/meetings you may need to make. The RingCentral application on my PC/Mac appears unresponsive with a blank white screen. How do I fix this?
Within the RingCentral application, click on the View menu and select Reload. If this issue persists, please submit a help request.
