Finding Your Network Details

Description

When troubleshooting network connectivity or access to network resources, the network details of your computer are important to know.

Procedure

Find Your IP Address

• To find your IP address, go to: whatismyipaddress.com
• To find your computer name (hostname) click “Additional IP Details” on the above page or go to: https://whatismyhostname.com/

Find Your MAC Address

To find your MAC address (a unique address for every network device, it is not specific to Mac computers):

Windows

1. Press the Windows Key on your keyboard, type cmd into the Search bar, then press Enter on your keyboard.
2. Enter ipconfig /all into the Command Prompt window and press Enter on your keyboard.
3. The wireless MAC address will be listed under Wireless LAN adapter Wi-Fi next to Physical Address. The wired MAC address will be listed under Ethernet adapter Ethernet next to Physical Address.

Mac OS

1. Open the Apple menu.
2. Click System Preferences > Network.
3. Select your network adapter and click Advanced.
4. You will find the MAC address on the hardware tab.
