Description
Large classrooms can occasionally have issues with Wi-Fi, these issue could include download speeds, errors or application functionality (including Poll Everywhere, etc.) Below are some tips from Cornell's CIT Networking team for instructors and students to try and alleviate these issues.
Procedure
Student and Instructor tips:
- Ensure all clients are ONLY using eduroam and have removed ALL other Cornell University SSIDs from their device wireless setups.
- Ensure all clients have utilized the site: http://onboard.it.cornell.edu/ to configure their device wireless setup.
- Turn off all unneeded devices during lectures.
- Once in your seat, turn off Wi-Fi for a few seconds then back on again (this ensures your device connects to the closest access point).
- Practice academic integrity by not visiting other sites or utilizing other services during lectures.
- Ensure all the software (Operating Systems, Academic Software, Device Drivers, Etc.) are updated prior to lectures.
- Ensure all devices are properly logged onto Academic sites prior to lectures.
Instructor tips:
- Use the podium PC or wired Ethernet, where available.
- Ensure Lecturers are properly logged onto Academic sites prior to lectures..
- Ensure Previous Polls are closed properly.
- Ensure Current Poll is opened properly.
- Ensure clients have used a legitimate email address, verified that email address, register their accounts, certified their phone numbers, and taken all required steps to complete the setup process prior to lectures
- Break polling into smaller groups or sections.
- Increase polling time frames to properly allow the high demand to complete prior to closing polls.
