Getting a Salesforce Account

Summary

How to request a Salesforce account for new College of Business staff, what access comes with it, how to sign in the first time, and what to do if signing in does not work.

Body

This page is for new College of Business staff, and for managers requesting Salesforce for someone. It covers how to ask for an account, what access comes with it, how to sign in the first time, and what to do if signing in doesn't work.

Requesting an account

Submit a ticket. Include:

  • the person's name and NetID
  • their department, and their role in it (for example Admissions reader, CMC advisor, External Relations manager)
  • anything beyond the usual access for that role, such as running decision letters, interviewing applicants, or Pardot

For a student worker, the person who supervises them should submit the request. The student's account is set up to match the department they work for. The supervisor's email address goes on it as the contact.

What access you get

Access depends on your department and role. Everyone gets a base set, including College Engagements and Cvent event access. On top of that, each department has its own. For example:

  • Admissions staff get the admissions application, and usually SUMO scheduling, Linvio events and text messaging. Nintex letters are only for those who run decision letters.
  • Admissions readers get reader access to applications.
  • Career Management advisors are marked as advisors on their user record.
  • External Relations staff can get Account Strategy and the Corporate Index graphs on request.

Your department is recorded on your account. It is used in the quarterly access review, when department heads confirm who still needs Salesforce.

Pardot (Account Engagement) access is set up separately. See Pardot-Salesforce User Sync.

If you'll interview applicants, ask for your Zoom room link to be added to your Salesforce user record.

If you already have a JConnect login

Students and alumni who become staff often already have a JConnect (community) login. That login can't be turned into a Salesforce account. The Salesforce team creates a new Salesforce user for you, and links it to JConnect if you still need JConnect access. You'll sign in to Salesforce with your NetID as usual.

Your first sign-in

When your account is ready, you'll get a welcome email. Then:

  1. Go to johnson.my.salesforce.com and bookmark it.
  2. Sign in with your NetID and password through Cornell's login page, then approve the Duo prompt. See Salesforce Multi-Factor Authentication.
  3. Use Chrome. Salesforce works best in it.

New to Salesforce? Work through the College of Business Introduction to Salesforce Trailmix on Trailhead, then General Salesforce Best Practices.

Exporting reports? Salesforce asks for a second check before a report export. Set one up first: Setup Built-In Authenticator or MFA in Salesforce.

Admissions staff: start with the Admissions User Documentation Homepage.

The Statler Hotel's Salesforce is separate

Delphi, the Statler Hotel's Salesforce, is a different Salesforce from the College of Business one, and needs its own account. To sign in, use the custom domain statlerhotel2. See Log in to Salesforce using Single Sign On.

If you can't sign in

  • You land on the generic Salesforce login page. Click Use Custom Domain, type johnson, and click Continue. For Delphi, type statlerhotel2.
  • Cornell's login works, but Salesforce says you have no access. Your NetID may be missing from your Salesforce user record, or your account may not be active yet. Only a Salesforce administrator can fix either, so submit a ticket.
  • You can sign in but can't see something you need. Your role may not include it. Submit a ticket saying what you need and why.
