Oracle Micros EMC: Installing, Sign-in, and Who to Contact

Summary

For Statler Hotel food and beverage managers: EMC runs only on Windows. Close and reopen EMC, then restart the PC; installation and launch problems go to the IT help desk as a ticket. How-to questions, configuration, and access go to the Director of Food and Beverage, then the vendor (CBORD). The Hotel System Manager is for urgent cases after the ticket is submitted.

Body

About EMC

Oracle Micros EMC (Enterprise Management Console) is the administration program for the Statler Hotel POS system. Management uses it to configure POS terminals, manage menus, and control system settings. You may hear it called "EMC," "Enterprise Management Console," "Micros Admin," or "System Console." EMC is a Windows program installed on your PC. It does not run on a Mac.

Who to contact

  • How-to questions, configuration decisions, and access: the Director of Food and Beverage, the Product Champion for EMC.
  • Installing EMC, or EMC will not open: log a ticket with the IT help desk (see "Still need help?" below).
  • Problems the Director of Food and Beverage cannot solve: the vendor, CBORD, at 844-462-2673, Option 1. Anyone can call CBORD.

Before you contact anyone

  • Are you on a Windows PC or a Mac? EMC runs only on Windows.
  • Is it an installation or launch problem, a sign-in problem, or a change you want to make?
  • Whether other EMC users are seeing the same problem.

If EMC will not open or is not working correctly - try these first

  1. Close EMC completely and open it again. If that does not help, restart your PC and try again.
  2. Ask whether other EMC users can connect. If several people cannot connect, EMC itself is probably offline. Let the Director of Food and Beverage know.
  3. If only you are affected, log a ticket with the IT help desk. EMC updates regularly, and an out-of-date copy is a common cause of problems. IT can install the current version on your PC.

If you cannot sign in

Contact the Director of Food and Beverage. EMC accounts are managed in the "People" section of Reporting and Analytics, not in EMC itself. The IT help desk does not have access to the Micros platform and cannot check or set up accounts. See Oracle Micros Reporting and Analytics: Report Questions, Access, and Outages.

Common questions

  • I need EMC installed on my PC. Log a ticket with the IT help desk. IT installs the current version.
  • I work on a Mac. EMC does not run on a Mac. Log a ticket with the IT help desk to discuss options.
  • EMC stopped working after an update. Log a ticket with the IT help desk to have the current version installed.
  • A menu item prints to the wrong kitchen printer. This is set in EMC and is tricky to get right. Contact the Director of Food and Beverage, who brings in the Hotel System Manager as needed. Please do not change it yourself. For other printer problems, see POS Kitchen Printers: Error Lights, Paper Jams, and Who to Contact.

Still need help?

For how-to questions, configuration, and access: the Director of Food and Beverage, then the vendor (CBORD), then the Hotel System Manager.

For installing EMC or EMC not opening: the IT help desk (log a ticket), then the Hotel System Manager.

Always log a ticket with the IT help desk first (itrequests@business.cornell.edu). If the situation is critical or urgent, you can then contact the Hotel System Manager directly, after you have submitted the ticket. Your manager or department director knows how to reach the Hotel System Manager and is empowered to do so based on their judgment.

Still need help? Contact the Cornell SC Johnson College of Business Helpdesk at itrequests@business.cornell.edu.
