Box: Recover Deleted Files and Folders

Summary

Restore items from your Box Trash within 30 days of deleting them.

Body

When you delete a file or folder in Box, it moves to your Trash and stays there for 30 days. During that time you can restore it. After 30 days, Box permanently deletes it. Each item in Trash shows when it was deleted and when it will be permanently deleted.

Restore specific items

These steps work whether you're looking at all of your Trash or at search results.

  1. In the left sidebar in Box, click Trash.
  2. Hover over the item you want. The More Options ellipsis (...) appears.
  3. Click the ellipsis (...) and select Restore.
Box Trash with the More Options menu open, showing Restore and Delete
  4. When prompted, click Okay. The item goes back to its original folder.

To restore several items at once, select them: hold Shift to select a range, or hold Ctrl (Windows) or Command (Mac) to select individual items. Then right-click anywhere in the selection and select Restore.

Restore everything in Trash

  1. Open your Trash.
  2. Click Restore All in the upper-right corner.
Box Trash with the Restore All button highlighted

Note: Restore All restores everything in your Trash, not just the items on screen.
