How to Repair Microsoft Office

Summary

Fix problems with Microsoft Office on your JCB Windows computer by running a repair from Windows Settings.

Body

Before you begin

  • A JCB Windows computer with Microsoft Office installed.
  • An active internet connection (Online Repair downloads files).
  • Admin credentials: your A- account (a- followed by your NetID), if you have one.

Steps

  1. Open the Start menu, then select Settings (the gear icon).
  2. Select Apps.
  3. Under Apps & features, scroll to your installed Microsoft Office version (for example, Microsoft Office Professional Plus 2019), select it, and click Modify.
  4. Select Online Repair, then click Repair. (Online Repair fixes all issues but takes longer and needs an internet connection; Quick Repair is faster and works offline.)
  5. If you are prompted for admin credentials, enter your A- account (a- followed by your NetID). If you do not have one, contact the Helpdesk.

Expected result

Office repairs the installation, and when it finishes your Office apps (such as Word, Excel, and Outlook) open and work normally.

Troubleshooting

Before you report a problem, try these quick checks:

  • Try Quick Repair first: it fixes most issues without an internet connection. If problems remain, run Online Repair using the steps above.
  • No admin or A- account: the repair needs admin credentials. If you do not have an A- account, contact the Helpdesk.

Online Repair takes some time and requires an active internet connection. Save your work and close your Office apps before you start.
