Faculty Class Review (FCR)

The Faculty Class Review (FCR) is a form in FastApps where instructors tell the school registrars how they plan to run each class they teach in the coming academic year. The registrars use the answers to build rosters and schedules. This page covers how to complete it, when classes appear, and how access works.

At a glance

When this happens Salesforce does this Timing
A term's class review window opens Shows that term's classes on each instructor's review page On the window's start date
An instructor has a class in an open review window Gives them FastApps access, if they don't have it Every Sunday night
An instructor has a class in an open review window Adds them to the FCR email list, so they get the FCR messages Every Sunday night
A term's class review window closes Removes that term's classes from the review page After the window's end date

Which classes you see

A class appears on your review page when both of these are true:

  • You are listed as an Instructor on the class in the Academic Planning Database (APD).
  • The class review window for the class's term is open. That's the period between the term's Class Review Start and Class Review End dates.

Discussion sections and similar classes are not reviewed and don't appear.

Getting into FastApps

You don't need to request access. Every Sunday night, Salesforce gives FastApps access to each instructor with a class in an open review window. Your classes appear on the window's start date. If you don't have FastApps access yet and the window opened during the week, you can sign in after the next Sunday night.

To open the FCR, go to FastApps and sign in with your NetID and password.

If you also have a Salesforce account (a staff login, not just FastApps), access works differently. The Salesforce team shares your class review records with your account by hand. If you have a Salesforce account and can't see your classes, submit a ticket.

The two tabs

  • In Progress: classes you haven't submitted yet.
  • Complete: classes you've submitted to the registrar.

The questions

The questions depend on which school the class's subject belongs to.

Every class asks for:

  • Class roster notes
  • Additional faculty comments

Johnson classes also ask about:

  • Whether student groups are allowed
  • Increasing the enrollment cap to room capacity
  • A TA review session, and its dates if there is one
  • A mid-term exam, and its dates if there is one
  • The final deliverable type, and its date if it isn't a final exam
  • When the course evaluation opens

Dyson and Hotel classes also ask about:

  • Student group enrollment limits
  • Whether the final exam is during the scheduled exam period

Some answers bring up a follow-up question. For example, answering Yes to a TA review session asks for its dates.

Saving and submitting

Each class has three buttons.

  • Save for later saves your answers and keeps the class In Progress. Nothing saves automatically. Save before you leave the page, or your changes are lost.
  • Copy to other sections in course is for instructors teaching more than one section of the same course. It copies this class's answers into your other sections and replaces any answers already there. It does not save them. Open each section and save or submit it.
  • Submit to Registrar saves your answers, sends them to the registrar, and moves the class to the Complete tab.

You can still change your answers after you submit. Open the class from the Complete tab and edit the form. If the registrar may already be using your earlier answers, let them know what changed.

For Academic Affairs staff: opening a review period

The review window is set for each term on its Academic Term record in APD:

  1. Set Class Review Start to the date classes should appear.
  2. Set Class Review End to the last day instructors can submit.

You can set the dates in advance. Nothing appears until the start date, and then every class in that term opens for review at once. FastApps access and the FCR email list follow on the next Sunday night.

If something is wrong

  • A class you teach is missing. Check that the term's review window is open. If it's still missing, ask Academic Affairs to check that you're listed as the instructor.
  • You can't get into FastApps at all. If your review window opened this week, access arrives after Sunday night. Otherwise, submit a ticket.
  • Your answers disappeared. They weren't saved before you left the page. Re-enter them and click Save for later or Submit to Registrar.
