Before you begin
- A JCB Windows laptop. JCB desktops do not have built-in WiFi, so a desktop must connect to your home router with an ethernet cable instead.
- The name and password of your home WiFi network.
- Your WiFi router powered on and within range.
Steps
- In the bottom-right corner of your taskbar, click the network icon (it may look like a globe, a WiFi signal, or a computer monitor).
- In the list of available networks, select the name of your home WiFi network.
- Select Connect automatically so your laptop reconnects on its own next time.
- Click Connect.
- If your network is password protected, type your home WiFi password, then click Next or press Enter.
Expected result
Your laptop connects to your home WiFi network and shows as connected in the network panel, and you have internet access.
Troubleshooting
Before you report a problem, try these quick checks:
- Can't find your network: make sure your WiFi router is powered on, click the refresh icon (or close and reopen the network panel), and move closer to the router if the signal is weak.
- Connected but no internet: disconnect and reconnect to your network, restart your router (unplug it, wait 30 seconds, then plug it back in), and contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP) if the problem continues.
- Password not accepted: check that Caps Lock is off, and verify the password with your ISP or on the label on the back or bottom of your router.
JCB IT cannot access your home network password. If you do not know your WiFi password or need help with it, contact your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
