SETs Instructor Tips: Viewing Response Rates and Providing Course Link to Students

Your course evaluations in the Student Evaluations of Teaching (SETs) system have gone live! This is the exciting time of the year when you get to collect valuable feedback that gives your students a voice in expressing their experience with your teaching. The intuitive interfaces in the new SETs system application* will provide your students with an easy-to-access method of responding directly from their emails and from Canvas. But, as you look to give additional support to your students, there are some simple methods you can take advantage of from within your Response Rate view.

One access point for your response rate view is by clicking the "Your Course Response Rates" link in the SETs Instructor invitation email sent toward the beginning of the evaluation window. You will receive this email notification from the sender Cornell Teaching Evals with the subject: "Your Student Evaluations of Teaching are now open – you can encourage your students and monitor progress".

Another method is for faculty (and students) with current SETs courses to log directly into https://teachingevals.cornell.edu/ .  You can then click on "View" for a course shown in the My Active Tasks list.

As an instructor, once you click this link you will access the Response Rates screen in the SETs system with a tiled interface view of your live response rates (shown below).

This is an enhanced view that will allow you to see all activity related to your evaluations on a single comprehensive page. There are several features accessible on this page but here are a few to focus on initially:

  • View response rates - View real-time response rates to your live evaluation(s).
  • View QR Code - Print or display the QR code for your evaluation to students during remote or in-class sessions to encourage participation.
  • Copy course evaluation link - View and copy a unique direct link to your evaluation(s) to provide to your students when encouraging their participation.
  • View invitees - Lists the invitee for your evaluation. From this screen you can also email all respondents that haven't completed their evaluation yet.

View Response Rates

You can view your live response rates as students send responses. Clicking refresh in the top right of the tile will allow you to see the latest information. You will not have access to see your students actual responses or who submitted them. After all responses are submitted, you will have access to reports showing student responses that are masked to keep responses anonymous.

View QR Code, Copy Course Evaluation Link, and View Settings

By clicking on the ellipsis shown in the bottom right of the course tile, you will be able to expand addition options.

You can click to view the course QR code via the bottom button. Also, you can access a short link to share with your students to help promote participation by clicking the small copy icon to the right of the link. Make sure you copy your specific course link and not the example one shown in the image. (Note that students are sent customized links via email and have access to evaluations currently being evaluated via SETs in their Canvas course.)

These options will also appear in View Settings.

Additional Options

Lastly, there are additional options, including the ability via the View Invitees button to resend evaluations to students who have not yet submitted their responses. But there will be 5 total reminders sent by the system throughout the 11-day evaluation window, set to trigger periodically.

(*Please note as Cornell transitions to a new Student Evaluations of Teaching system, not all courses and colleges are included this semester. Updates from Spring 2025 are primarily for CHE, AAP and ILR. Be sure to check for additional notifications from other evaluation systems.)
