2025/10/01 Supporting Student Wellbeing: Welcome to Our New Embedded Therapist

Body

The following message is being sent on behalf of Miranda Swanson, Associate Dean of Student Services

Dear Cornell Engineering Faculty and Staff,

I am pleased to announce that Dr. Heather Wimmer-Haman is joining us as the dedicated embedded therapist for Cornell Engineering students, part of an exciting donor-funded, university-wide initiative announced last year. She will be located in Rhodes Hall Room 188.

This position, which is part of Counseling and Psychological Services (CAPS), represents a strategic move to integrate mental health services for students directly into our academic environment, making support more accessible and helping to normalize conversations about mental health within our community. Key benefits include:

  • Direct access for all Cornell students to mental health services within Rhodes Hall (Note: students follow the normal CAPS individual counseling scheduling procedures)
  • Enhanced understanding of engineering-specific pressures and timelines for CAPS staff
  • Opportunities for faculty/staff consultation on student mental health matters, including
    • Advising leadership on emerging mental health trends
    • Helping develop targeted programming for Engineering students
    • Collaborating on wellness initiatives during key academic transitions

Heather brings extensive experience as a Clinical Psychologist and former Behavioral Health Consultant at Cornell Health. She holds a Psy.D. in Clinical Psychology with a specialty in supporting young adults.

Please join me in welcoming Heather and helping to spread awareness of this valuable new resource within our community.

For questions about this new role or to discuss potential collaborations, please contact me.

Best wishes,
Miranda Swanson
