2026.01.20 Welcome back and spring semester reminders

Dear colleagues,

Welcome back for the spring semester. Our department operations staff are running on a very small crew this semester with multiple staff members managing additional workloads as we've absorbed layoffs. Please continue to use our operations portal to request assistance or for general inquiries.

My admin director walk-in hours for faculty resume every Tuesday, 2:30-4:00pm starting today in 133 Upson.

We've eliminated our Thursday drop-in hours; however, requests for in-person meetings for support can be submitted on a general query ticket on the support portal.

Travel booking support:

  • Grad students (and faculty without T&M cards) should make every effort to request travel advances for research-supported travel

  • Faculty who anticipate traveling more than 2x per year and don't currently have a T&M card may fill out the application to request the card

  • If faculty would like their grad students to receive a T&M card, the SSC has confirmed that only students funded via workday (meaning not on an external fellowship) for at least 4 remaining AY semesters would be eligible to apply

Travel reimbursement support:

Purchasing support: limited at the dept. level due to our existing staff reduction. The SSC has a backlog in processing Pcards for the groups that have already nominated a purchasing support rep, so we have extended the timeline to transition our groups to purchasing independently to early February.

Short term visiting international scholars

Please notify me as early as possible if you will be hosting an international visitor this semester and will be requesting support with securing housing for them. Cornell's limited stock of on campus housing tends to fill up fast, so the more notice the better.

Workday impact on students on external fellowships

Finally, please note that Workday doesn't track grad students who are funded on external fellowships, so please reach out to maeadmindirector@cornell.edu if your students are unable to enroll in any required workday trainings.

Best,
