How to Share Content Wirelessly Using Solstice
What is Solstice
Solstice is a wireless screen-sharing tool that lets you display your laptop, tablet, or phone on the classroom projector or monitor — no cables required. It’s ideal for sharing slides, videos, documents, or websites during class.
How to Connect to Solstice
-
Wake up the display system
-
Join the Solstice display
-
On your device, open a web browser (Chrome, Safari, or Edge).
-
In the address bar, type the web address shown on the classroom screen (for example: http://solstice.cornell.edu).
-
You’ll be prompted to download or open the Solstice app.
-
Connect using the code
-
Open the Solstice app and enter the room name or IP address shown on the classroom display.
-
When prompted, type in the 4-digit screen key that appears on the classroom screen.
-
You’re now connected to the room’s display.
How to Share Your Screen or Files
Once connected:
-
Click Share Desktop to show your entire screen.
-
Click Share Application Window to share just one program (like PowerPoint or a browser).
-
Click Share Media File to display a specific photo, video, or PDF.
Multiple users can connect at once, but only one person’s content will be shown at a time. The instructor can control which content appears on the screen.
How to Share Audio Through Solstice
Solstice supports both video and audio sharing.
-
When sharing your screen, make sure to enable audio sharing in the Solstice app.
-
On Windows, check the box for “Share system audio.”
-
On macOS, check “Include audio.”
-
Adjust your laptop’s volume as needed.
-
Use the touch panel in the classroom to control the overall room speaker volume.
-
If you don’t hear sound, verify that your computer’s output device is set to Solstice or Room Display.
Ending Your Session
When you’re done:
-
Click Stop Sharing in the Solstice app.
-
Close the app or disconnect from the room.
-
The classroom screen will return to the Solstice welcome screen for the next user.
Troubleshooting Tips
-
Can’t connect? Make sure your device is on the eduroam or Cornell-Visitor Wi-Fi network (not a personal hotspot).
-
Display not showing? Double-check that the classroom’s touch panel source is set to Solstice or Wireless Display.
-
Audio still missing? Restart the share and ensure the audio option is enabled in Solstice.
