How to Adjust and Use the Electric Sit-Stand Teaching Station

Overview

The Teaching Station is an adjustable electric sit-stand desk designed to provide instructors with ergonomic flexibility and seamless access to classroom AV controls. This guide explains how to properly adjust the desk height, optimize your workspace, and ensure cable and equipment safety before, during, and after class. It also includes steps to reset the desk controller if functionality issues arise.

Adjusting the Teaching Station

Step 1: Locate the Controls

  • The height adjustment controls are located under the front right edge of the desk.

Step 2: Adjust the Height

  • Raise the desk: Press and hold the UP arrow button until the desk reaches your preferred height.
  • Lower the desk: Press and hold the DOWN arrow button until the desk lowers to your chosen height.

Step 3: Optimize Height for Comfort

  • Adjust the desk so that your laptop and the touch panel are comfortably accessible.
    • Standing: Position the desk so your arms are at a 90-degree angle while typing or using the touch panel.
    • Sitting: Adjust the desk height to maintain good posture and ensure a clear view of the touch panel and your laptop screen.

Resetting the Desk Controller

If the desk behaves abnormally or fails to adjust, follow these steps to reset the controller:

  1. Unplug the desk from the power outlet for 30 seconds.
  2. Plug the desk back in.
  3. Press and hold the DOWN arrow button until the desk reaches its lowest position.
  4. Continue holding the DOWN arrow button for an additional 10 seconds. The desk will slightly rebound to indicate the reset is complete.
  5. Test the controls by raising and lowering the desk to ensure normal operation.

Best Practices for Using the Teaching Station

Keep Cable Connections Organized

  • Ensure cables in the cable cubby (USB-C, HDMI, USB-A, Ethernet) have enough slack to avoid pulling or straining during height adjustments.
  • After connecting your laptop, minimize drastic desk movements to prevent loosening cables or damaging connections.

Position the Touch Panel and Laptop Securely

  • Place your laptop securely on the desk surface, avoiding the edges to prevent accidental falls while adjusting the desk height.
  • Leave enough space on the desk for organized access to the touch panel, cables, and other teaching materials.

Troubleshooting Common Issues

Desk Does Not Adjust Properly

  • Follow the reset instructions above to restore normal desk functionality.
  • Verify that the desk is securely plugged into a functioning power outlet.
  • If the issue persists, report the problem to the AV Helpdesk.

Cables Become Loose During Adjustments

  • Inspect and reseat all connections in the cable cubby, ensuring cables are firmly plugged into both your laptop and the cubby ports.
  • Adjust the desk height slowly to avoid straining cables or pulling adapters.
