Overview
The Blank Screen button on the touch panel is a useful tool for temporarily hiding the projected image on the classroom screen while keeping audio active. Instructors can use this feature to pause visual content during a presentation, avoid displaying the laptop desktop while switching files or applications, or maintain focus on a lecture without visual distractions.
How to Use the Blank Screen Button
Step 1: Activate Blank Screen
- Locate the Blank Screen button on the touch panel. This button is typically on the right side of the screen and available in all classroom systems using Cornell’s standard touch panel interface.
- Tap the Blank Screen button to instantly turn off the image displayed by the projector. Audio will continue to play unless muted.
Step 2: Restore the Projected Image
- When ready to resume projecting content, tap the Blank Screen button again. The projector will immediately resume displaying your laptop image.
Best Practices for Using Blank Screen
- During File Preparation: Use Blank Screen when switching between documents, PowerPoint presentations, or browser windows to prevent inadvertently displaying private or irrelevant content.
- During Lecture: If your visual content isn’t needed during a specific portion of your presentation, use the Blank Screen button to help refocus attention on the audio or the classroom discussion.
- Avoid Overuse: While Blank Screen can be helpful, toggling it on and off too often during a class can be distracting for students.
Common Issues With Blank Screen
Projected Image Doesn’t Restore After Pressing Blank Screen
- Check Input Selection: Confirm that the correct input (Auto, USB-C, HDMI) is selected in the touch panel’s hamburger menu.
- Reseat the Cable: Disconnect and reconnect your laptop cable in the Teaching Station cubby, securely plugging both ends back in.
- Restart Your Playback App: Sometimes software (e.g., PowerPoint, Zoom, or YouTube) may require restarting to refresh the video output to the projector.
