When Cornell Law School owned computers reach their end-of-life and are replaced, faculty and staff have the option to purchase their old device for personal use. End-of-life is determined by warranty status and the IT Director. Below is pertinent information related to this program. All questions should be directed to the IT Director.
Requirements/ Information
- All computers offered as part of this program will have their hard drives wiped prior to sale. This is to ensure all Cornell Law School (CLS) information is removed and all CLS, Cornell University, and software licensing policies are followed.
- Windows based machines will be provided with no operating system installed. It is the responsibility of the purchaser to obtain a license for Windows and install the operating system.
- MacOS based machines will be provided with the factory installed operating system.
- CLS IT will not provide any support or advice for licensing, operating system installation, software installation, troubleshooting, data transfer, or training.
- Computers purchased through this program are intended for personal use only. Official CLS work should be performed using your CLS provided and supported computer. This is to comply with University policy.
- All sales are final and no warranty is provided.
Time Frame and Process
- Computers made available for buyback will be held for a period of at least two weeks prior to next steps.
- Computers will typically be ready within 30 days, however, could take as long as 90 days during peak times of year. CLS priorities will always take precedence over preparing computers for buyback.
- All computers made available for the buyback period will typically be ready for purchase within 30 days.
- Computers made available for buyback must be picked up at the IT Law Office in Myron Taylor Hall.
- Payment is required upon pickup.
Cost
- $100. Check should be made payable to "Cornell University".
