Customizing Zoom for use with multiple screens

If your computer setup has multiple screens you may want to enable or disable Zoom’s dual screen mode. When enabled, the behavior of Zoom when the differs depending on whether you are a participant or a presenter.

  1. As presenter with dual screen mode enabled:
    1. When not sharing content
      1. One screen shows speaker and the other shows the gallery (this view is customizable)
      2. The gallery view has the Zoom controls and can have the chat and participants lists attached to the side or as additional floating windows
      3. You can set each Zoom window to full-screen, a custom size in “windowed” mode, or minimize
      4. In Windowed mode you can resize and arrange the windows on your screens to your liking
    2. When sharing content
      1. One screen shows the gallery or speaker view (see Zoom video layout options while screen sharing for all available options)
      2. The shared content window or screen has the Zoom controls which float on the top of the shared window or can be completely hidden from view (…More\Hide Floating Meeting Controls)
      3. Chat and participants windows are available as separate floating windows using the “Pop out” menu item at the top of each sub-window
      4. It may be desirable to modify the default display settings when sharing PowerPoint slides (Slide Show > Monitors, enable one monitor and uncheck “Use Presenter View”)
  2. As participant with dual screen mode enabled:
    1. When content is not shared
      1. One screen shows the active speaker and the other shows the gallery
      2. Zoom controls will appear at the bottom of the gallery window when the mouse hovers over the window
    2. When content is shared by another participant or host
      1. One screen shows the shared content and the other shows the gallery
      2. The gallery view has the Zoom controls and can have the chat and participants lists attached to the side or as additional floating windows using the “Pop out” menu item at the top of each sub-window

An alternative to dual screen mode is to use the side-by-side viewing mode on a single screen.  Note that changes to dual screen mode should be done prior to joining a meeting.  If you change your mind while in a meeting you must leave the meeting and rejoin for the setting change to take effect.
